  • Excellent image quality, good ergonomics and build, menu system, comprehensive feature set and customisability, info panel, responsive
  • Joystick and Quick Dial take getting used to; shadow detail lost too quickly, noise processing eats detail over ISO 1000 (and at lowest setting)

  • Rugged build; excellent design; 6.3fps shooting; high-res LCD
  • Unexceptional definition; disappointing 17-85mm kit lens
  • The EOS 50D is an excellent semi-pro camera with slick controls, rugged build and a terrific continuous shooting rate of 6.3fps. But while the camera's great, the pictures are pretty average, despite that 15-megapixel sensor. The fine detail in JPEGs ...

  • Excellent image quality; gorgeous new LCD screen; HDMI output.
  • No Live View in Automatic mode; Creative Auto mode seems out of place.
  • The 50D is remarkably similar to the 40D in terms of performance, looks and features--but if you can spare the extra cash, its a much nicer package.
