The editors liked

  • Increases WiFi performance
  • Compact
  • Foldaway design
  • Adapter can be focused for improved reception
  • Unbelievable range. Best throughput at range
  • Bar none.
  • Pulls in many hot spots
  • Easy installation
  • Works on multiple operating systems
  • Really does extend range
  • Makes useable connections from WiFi signals too weak for internal adapters to connect to or detect

The editors didn't like

  • Windows PC only
  • Clamp does not hold the adapter securely in place
  • Pricey
  • Very directionallyfinicky. Can't compete with DraftN at short range (obviously). Flimsy base denies it a Kick Ass.
  • Very directional
  • 802.11b/g only
  • Expensive
  • Large
  • Doesn’t stay in place well on thin screen
  • Iderably more compact than its slabsided predecessorhField says the new model is 40% smaller and 30% lighterat $59
  • The new WiFire also rings up $20 less expensive.

  • I was surprisingly impressed with the Wi-Fire overall. I do have a few gripes with the design of the device, but those are things that I could get used to. The clip on the Wi-Fi could attach to the top of a laptop a little better in my opinion. The ant...

  • Apart of the size of the antenna, I was really pleased with the ease of installation, the resource footprint and the overall performance of the Wi-Fire. Unfortunately I was unable to test the maximum range of the Wi-Fire, but the testing I could perfo...

  • Increases WiFi performance, Compact, foldaway design, Adapter can be focused for improved reception
  • Windows PC only, Clamp does not hold the adapter securely in place, Pricey
  • Although I was unable to completely replicate the claims on the hField site, the adapter did out perform the built-in device on my laptop. The clamp had a somewhat loose grip on my laptop screen, and as a consequence, was prone to sliding off. Futu...
