The editors didn't like

  • None.
  • Costs more than some alternatives
  • Find More Reviews @ TestFreaks
  • Pricey
  • Lacks bundled antenna
  • Limited IR blaster compatibility
  • TV Guide EPG requires subscription after first year
  • New EPG lacks remote scheduling
  • So-so analog MPEG-2 encoding...
  • Like all TV Tuners
  • You need an antenna (or cable service) to actually get a picture
  • Negating the portability/small size of the device.
  • Antenna not included
  • IR remote requires line-of-sight
  • Can't set number of episodes to record with Smart Series
  • Complicated to use with cable or satellite boxes
  • Best features are Mac-only. No included software for Windows. No high-definition input options besides coaxial cable. Clunky remote.
  • Scheduling software lacks TiVoesque features. Some quirky behavior.
  • Must supply your own remote control. Need good reception. Requires Mac OS X 10.4.x
  • Slow buffering from a computer to the iOS app makes it unwieldy for live programming. The iOS app requires a computer with the EyeTV Hybrid to be running and connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Input video cables are S-Video and composite only
  • And many
  • None
  • Unit has only one coaxial input
  • Requires a dual processor for HDTV viewing and high-quality MPEG-2 compression
  • Antenna not included.

  • Analog and ATSC digital tuner; small size; strong scheduling software included; remote scheduling options; iPod video export; good for playing video games on Mac monitor.
  • Unit has only one coaxial input; requires a dual processor for HDTV viewing and high-quality MPEG-2 compression; antenna not included.
  • The EyeTV Hybrid has many benefits and few drawbacks. It’s a clear winner—especially if you want to take TV viewing on the road. If you have a slower, single-processor Mac, however, the EyeTV 250 may be a better bet....
