The editors liked
This drive offers high performance when transferring largeblocksize data
But you need to have the additional hardware to take advantage of the throughput speeds. USB 3.1 Generation 2 is new to market
And very few computers ship with the interface right
Impact resistant
Fast performance
Can be used out of box with Mac or PC
Comes with USB-C-to-USB-C cable
Software enables 128-bit AES encryption
Reasonable price
The SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSD is super fast
And includes both a USB-C cable and a regular USB cable
So it'll work with all USB ports for the foreseeable future
Amazingly fast
Includes a USBC port
A drive that can hit 10Gbps USB 3.1 speeds
Includes both USB Type C and USB Type A cables
Gives you all the speed you demand in a portable drive
The editors didn't like
Pricing is consistent with what we would expect
But we would like to see a reduction. The drive is bulky compared to the Samsung T3 that also ships in a 2TB capacity
Size but the Extreme 900 uses two SATA SSDs in RAID 0
So it has to be larger.
Bulky for an SSD
The drive is large and slightly more expensive compared to competing drives. The three-year warranty is too short
Expensive
As big as a portable hard disk drive
Not exactly cheap
A 10Gbps USB 3.1 port is needed to take advantage of it

The SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSD 960GB model that we looked at today was wicked fast with speeds hitting 793 MB/s when reading data sequentially in the ATTO Disk Benchmark. The SanDisk Extreme 900 series is rated for speeds of up to 850MB/s Read/Write...

An important point to note here is that each of the first three blue and green areas correspond to 15.6 GB of writes and reads respectively. Throttling, if any, is apparent within the processing of the photos suite itself. SanDisk Extreme 900 1.92TB Cors...

Color me impressed. Not only is SanDisk the first major player out there with a 10Gbps USB drive, but the company has implemented it extremely well. I wish MLC (Multi-Level Cell/2-bit) NAND were used, for more consistent write performance, but even th...
