  • The WD My Book Thunderbolt Duo makes a great alternative to USB- or FireWire-based external drives. The drive is relatively affordable
  • Supports RAID configurations
  • And is easy to service

The editors didn't like

  • No USB 2.0 compatibility interface (only interfaces through Thunderbolt)
  • Plastic Enclosure

  • 400 RPM drives
  • Drive speed a tad slow for heavy video editing

  • WD really delivered a drive that's paramount for an Apple user. It's massive storage capacity, easy to access internals and a rigid metal body make it a clear winner. It's also got a competitive price point now that would work well with the current Mac ...

  • Extremely fast for external hard drive, good looks that go nicely with Macs, simple formatting options and easily upgreadable,
  • Prices of Thunderbolt drives are fairly higher than USB 3.0 of same capacity, and passive cooling means only 5400RPM drives can be used.
  • Essentially what we have here is an external drive which allows you to seamlessly work on your Mac with heavy workloads and use the My Book Thunderbolt Duo as a backup device and a primary drive to work on without any lag or slowdown in work. So we hav...
