The editors didn't like

  • Overall performance falls behind top competition
  • Lid picks up fingerprints easily
  • Below-average battery life
  • Slow hard drives
  • Speakers sound terrible
  • General performance isn't very good
  • Can't play games well on full settings at native resolution. Large. Heavy. Mini DisplayPort
  • Not Thunderbolt. Only 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
  • This laptop's still not cheap
  • It may not be $2
  • 000
  • But it's far more expensive than the average laptop. And
  • Let's face it
  • This machine's still a boat. Also
  • In performance it lags behind more powerful gaming laptops like the Origin EON17-S
  • Hefty
  • Even for a 17-inch laptop
  • Webcam software setup is confusing
  • No touch screen for Windows 8. Can't offer playable performance at top graphics settings
  • No way to change the colors on the backlighting of the keys
  • The battery life is extremely shot
  • No 5.1 surround ports could be an issue for a number of core gamers.
  • Subpar speakers
  • Big and heavy case
  • No Optimus

  • If you want to buy a "budget" gaming laptop, the Asus G75VW-AS71 offers plenty of horsepower and features in its heavy 17-inch body. Just don't expect anything svelte -- or good battery life.

  • Lovely, full HD 120Hz screen. Easy accessibility. User cleanable dust filters. Quiet operation. Four USB 3.0 ports. Thunderbolt
  • 3D functionality means no Nvidia Optimus. Audio solution is below usual gaming laptop fanfare. Don't expect to be away from the power point for long
  • The G75VW is a very fine piece of engineering, something that any power user would be proud to wield....

  • Very powerful processor, Impressive gaming performance, Excellent Full HD screen, Loads of storage
  • Pricey, Design won't suit everyone, No touchscreen to make the most of Windows 8
  • The Asus G75VW is far from pretty and it certainly isn't cheap, but it redeems itself by providing a massive serving of power for both general computing and gaming. The bold, Full HD screen sadly lacks the touch capabilities for Windows 8 though....
