The editors liked

  • Excellent Design. Beefy construction without looking like it’s beefy thanks to the interesting styling of the left and right channels
  • These speakers should last a long time
  • Thanks to the high quality construction.
  • Crisp and clear bass
  • Treble speakers with a tweeter for higher frequencies
  • Good control device
  • Wonderful and unique looks
  • Great sound quality
  • Control pod gives easy access to all controls as well as headphone/aux. in ports
  • Great build quality
  • The acrylic doesn't come off as "cheap looking" as some might think
  • Pleasant audio performance at moderate levels. Remote adjusts treble and bass levels. Aux input and headphone jack.

The editors didn't like

  • Would like to see a remote control on these
  • $149.84 seems a bit pricey
  • Unwanted static noise
  • Excessively large subwoofer
  • Somewhat expensive ($199.95 on Altec's website)
  • Hissing got annoying when nothing was being played through the speakers
  • Lack of wireless remote
  • Woofers distort at high volumes. Subwoofer is very large
  • And isn't a good fit for tight spaces. Hard-wired cables. Remote is wired
  • Awkward to operate.

  • I think a great set of speakers should be measured by the amount of times that you run to the door when a doorbell rings in a movie, or when you try to answer your phone when it isn’t ringing this means that the speaker is doing what they were designed...
