The editors didn't like

  • Continuing bug issues including nagging program hang-ups
  • Faces and Places technology mostly a novelty
  • Could use more HD editing capabilities for HD-DSLRs.
  • Still some graphics instability problems in version 3.0.3
  • Interface can still feel heavy
  • Edge masking needs more control
  • Verdict
  • So good that I'd put up with the crashing to use it
  • Brief slowdown can sometimes happen even on powerful Macs. Faces feature can also be sluggish.
  • Resource intensive. No history window to see previous actions. No geometry correction. No Windows version.
  • No new tools
  • Requires a fast computer to run optimally
  • Faces can bog down the system
  • Some users have reported troubling bugs
  • Inability to group brushed-in adjustments.
  • Overly simplistic in places for advanced users

  • Overall this is a solid release, well worth considering if you’ve outgrown iPhoto. Support for iPhoto libraries will mean you’re up and running quickly, and all the usual Apple refinements are present. Meanwhile, existing users of Aperture will love th...

  • Apple Aperture 3 now craftily straddles the divide between heavyweight professional productivity and consumer photo browser. There’s still that powerful indexing and manipulation we saw in Aperture 2; but now with better social skills, whether findi...

  • While Aperture is more expensive than similar products you might find on a PC, Mac owners will be delighted once they start playing around with their photos. Intuitive and sophisticated in equal measure, this is a stunning image processor and organise...

  • Effects brushes with edge detection work very well plus welcome additions of Faces and Places from iPhoto
  • Not easy to get to grips with and often frustrating to navigate around; some superfluous features
  • Definitely a piece of software worth buying so long as you have the patience to get to know it ...

  • Vastly improved slideshows, impressive new brushes, multi-touch aware, ability to split and merge libraries, easy export to Flickr and Facebook
  • Sporadic reports of potential problems when upgrading older libraries, web page creation hasn’t been overhauled, need a powerful Mac and lots of RAM to run well
  • A lot has changed in this version of Aperture, so much in fact that it feels a little different, but it's all the better for it: improved RAW engine, updated sorting options, more powerful search features, much more versatile adjustments tools, among many...

  • Abstract:  Aperture 3 came out of nowhere. No warning, no pre-announcement, and no extended beta period as there was for version 2. You could almost think Apple was sneaking it out under the radar, unsure of its worth in the face of Adobe's continued onslaught wi...

  • Lots of fun and playful features
  • Features need further improvement; limited to Mac OS
  • Overall, I find Aperture 3 extremely useful, though not as advanced when it comes to cameras’ technical compatibility issues. The software is fun, convenient, and easy to use. There are a lot of playful features like the Slideshow, Book, Web Page and W...
