The editors liked

  • The screen. Sure
  • It's not as high res as you'd maybe wish for
  • But that's because it's locked into the same resolution as last generation's smaller screens. The stats are 800x240 for the top screen
  • And 320x240 for the bottom
  • Improved 3D performance through the larger screen size
  • Improved battery life
  • Improved buttons and overall feel
  • A solid portable game console with a lot of available past and present games
  • Much bigger 3D display
  • Larger touchscreen is easier to use
  • Better
  • More ergonomic design
  • Colossalsize screens make old and new games look their best. Larger form factor and battery life make a more comfortable
  • Convenient experience. Double the included memory
  • Bigger screen improves the 3D effect significantlyImproved battery life under some conditionsMore comfortable to hold and use

The editors didn't like

  • The button size and layout. While the 3DS XL's larger size definitely makes it more comfortable to hold than the 3DS
  • The buttons still feel oddly small. The joystick and directional pad are arranged so you can use either
  • But that results in neither actu
  • It fits in the pocket
  • But barely
  • Kids might not like the larger size
  • Display resolution looks worse
  • More pixelated
  • Difficult to recommend over an iPad or smartphones
  • Adding a right thumb stick would have made sense
  • $30 more than original 3DS
  • Software library is still weak
  • Games still cost each. Still no account system. Still waiting for Nintendo to unleash the floodgates of cheap digital content instead of trickling out zero to three games a week
  • Digital content still lackingNo secondary analog stickNot the most powerful of handheld hardware

  • Better battery, Bigger screens, Comfortable 3D, Improved layout
  • Lower pixel density, Only one circle pad, Less pretty
  • If you spend most of your day staring at the new iPad's gorgeous Retina Display - or even the rival PS Vita's glorious OLED screen - the 3DS XL's often stretched-looking screens may put you off a purchase. For existing 3DS owners looking for an upgrade the...

  • Abstract:  As soon as the Nintendo 3DS XL was revealed, we knew it was only a matter of time before we saw a revised version of the handheld go on sale. Looking back across the history of Nintendo handhelds, their were four different versions of the Gameboy (in...

  • The much larger display makes games easier on the eye, bringing games to life to broaden the appeal of Nintendo’s 3DS range. Should you wish to have the 3D effect switched on, the effects are much more noticeable and obvious than before. Games such as Super Mario 3D Land and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time played on the 3DS XL will take any Nintendo fans breath away. Nintendo’s 3DS XL also d
  • The larger screen makes games look even better, but even the 3DS cannot compete with the HD screen quality of the PlayStation Vita. The build quality could also be better, especially when, again, compared to the superbly-made PlayStation Vita. The 3DS XL also sacrifices portability for size, so there’s no longer any hope of stashing it in your jeans pockets without suffering from unsightly bulges
  • The Nintendo 3DS XL is an impressive system that adds new life to Nintendo’s 3D handheld library. It may not be worth the price to upgrade, but newcomers will not be disappointed. Nintendo 3DS XL is tagged with Nintendo, 3DS X, L review, gaming, handh...

  • Bigger screen is better, improved battery life, still the only glassesfree console on the market, good price,
  • 3D effect feels like a novelty at best, uncomfortable to play for long periods, low resolution screens
  • Although we still have a large question mark over the whole idea of the 3DS -- both the original and the XL, thanks to its generally lacklustre 3D experience and relatively low-end graphical performance -- the 3DS XL is arguably the better console. For ...

  • A bigger screen with better 3D, A more comfortable size and shape, Excellent games
  • No second analogue stick, Disappointing battery life, Low, resolution screens
  • We like the 3DS XL. Games have more impact on the bigger screen, and the 3D effects are more impressive and easier to manage. It's also a more comfortable console to hold, and one you'll be happier to play with over longer stretches of time. For these re...

  • Build feels a bit cheap, Heft makes it cumbersome, Bland styling

  • Abstract:  When we first got some brief hands-on time with the 3DS XL a few months back, it was a bit of love at first touch. Having played with it considerably more since then though, the first love has become a full blown love affair. The reason, in part, howev...

  • Abstract:  It's not unusual for Nintendo to release revisions of its portable gaming hardware. The monochromatic 8-bit Gameboy made way for the Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Light and the Gameboy colour; The Gameboy Advance went micro before making way for the dual-screen...
