The editors liked

  • Great graphics
  • Huge bestiary with many tamable monsters
  • Truly unique story with excellent writing and plot twists
  • Satisfying plot that has stood the test of time
  • Impressive dualscreen presentation
  • Great enemy variety and inventive attacks freshen the battle system
  • Addictive monster taming
  • Strong replayability due to storyline twists and extra dungeon.
  • Wonderful characters
  • Fantastic story
  • Plenty of recruitable monsters
  • Fun mini-games
  • Interesting knick-knack creating/sharing element and some replay value since there are three possible brides.

The editors didn't like

  • Tedious beginning chapter
  • Annoying level grinding
  • Huge time investment may scare off casual players and busy RPG fans
  • A little difficult to target specific monsters to recruit.
  • Sancho’s dialect and dialogue could be considered insulting. More challenging than the previous game
  • So prepare to spend substantial amounts of time level grinding. No quick saving in dungeons.

  • Abstract:  To say that the release of Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride has been a long time coming would be a serious understatement. Dragon Quest V was originally released in Japan in 1992 on the region-specific Super Famicom. Since the series was not ...

  • Abstract:  Dragon Quest V is the most moving videogame I've played in ages. That might seem an unlikely claim, especially given the vintage of the material. It's a remake of a 1991 Super NES RPG that was never released outside Japan, and its dated appearance does...
