The editors didn't like

  • Character control can fight against you. Some graphical issues.
  • The game is rather short—expect around eight hours to beat it
  • Some of the sections where you're simply walking or driving from one place to the next are tiresome and drag on way too long
  • The product placement is seriously distracting and out of place
  • Character models look dated
  • Game resets player progression at nearly every turn
  • Leans heavily on combat
  • Characters take on typical 'horror movie character' qualities.
  • Some long gameplay slogs throw off the otherwise tight pacing
  • Stilted voice acting and character animations.
  • Lacks surprising
  • Memorable gameplay moments.
  • The game can pull you out of the experience by sometimes feeling a bit too gamey and with its overuse of ingame advertising.
  • Too linear
  • Wanting to rush through for story
  • Not enough breaking up of the gameplay

  • Despite being announced in 2005, Alan Wake has remained one of the most wanted games and this is a credit to the quality Remedy produced with the first two Max Payne games. Originally an open world game, Alan Wake changed to be a more narrative drive...

  • Good scenery at atmosphere; Great mix of weapons; Great use of light; Great storytelling; It’s like watching a really good TV series
  • Facial expressions could have been better; Lipsync issues; Not a long game if you do not spend time looking for extras and when it is played on normal.

  • Abstract:  With scores of 10 out 10, 95% and plus, not to mention praises from almost every corner of the globe, I thought that my version of Alan Wake was different than everyone else's. Was I missing something or was Alan Wake not my cup of tea. It was like a n...

  • A beautifully crafted world, stunningly presented. A cast of believable characters wrapped up in a narrative that's paced as reliably as a metronome. A fine balance of suspense and action.
  • Some disappointing set pieces. Wake's flamboyant literary agent, Barry, occasionally goes to great lengths to remind you that he's a caricature sidekick.

  • Abstract:  Stephen King once wrote, ‘Nightmares exist outside of logic, and there’s little fun to be had in explanations; they’re antithetical to the poetry of fear’. Finnish studio Remedy have taken this to heart; there are certainly a lot of illogical nightmare...

  • Abstract:  It's true that Alan Wake is a little derivative when you step back and consider it, with inspiration taken from a number of horror films, from The Fog to The Birds. But all this is pulled together so well, and it's so slickly presented, that any thoug...

  • Gripping moments can really win you over, atmospheric effects are excellent
  • Can be very linear at times
  • Tense, atmospheric and engaging, Alan Wake is the scariest, most ruthlessly efficient fear machine since Dead Space...

  • If it’s deep complexity, smart AI, or great variation you’re after, then this probably isn’t the title for you. If, on the other hand, you love narrative and atmosphere, and are looking for an excellent pulp story with bags of character, occasional sh...
