The editors didn't like

  • No Netflix
  • No Hulu
  • Can't pause some videos and resuming previously viewed video doesn't always work
  • Doesn't save place in video
  • No dedicated power button or backlighting on remote
  • Screen refreshing is not so refreshing
  • Weird form factor is quirky
  • But hard to place
  • No internal storage
  • Many key features—Netflix
  • Hulu Plus
  • Vudu—aren't fully available at launch. Remote is awkwardly designed. Set-up requires multiple firmware updates
  • Installations
  • Reboots.
  • Quirky interface. Some TV shows appear in the menu
  • But won't actually play. Much of the web's video actually looks really terrible when blown up on a big HDTV
  • You aren’t able to purchase or store movies and TV shows on your Boxee.
  • Keyboard remote not backlit
  • Netflix
  • Vudu
  • And Hulu Plus not yet available
  • Streaming content from PCs a chore
  • Must manually enlarge most free videos in browser
  • Integrated browser can't deliver desktop experience

  • Web video sometimes doesn't work properly
  • Limited range of top tier content
  • Doesn't play major protected video formats
  • Expensive for a cloudonly hub
  • Inconsistent interface at times
  • Netflix et. al. not yet here.
  • Bottom Line
  • The stylish Boxee Box by D-Link does a great job of making video from diverse sources accessible
  • And will be even greater when bugs are fixed and new content deals signed.
  • So much content is blocked that Boxee is limited and can't find any show you want
  • I.e
  • There is no Hulu
  • TNT
  • ABC
  • NBC
  • Fox or Disney content
  • Doesn't search for specific files in your home network media libraries
  • 3D streaming requires TV setup each time you use it
  • Menu system may be confusing to novice users
  • Boxee Box Menus are Simple Yet Unique
  • Boxee navigation bar menu
  • Th
  • No support for HDCP protected content
  • Remote is rather small/tight to navigate in certain uses
  • Some applications occasionally need to be re-installed/activated (Pandora)
  • Not enough content at launchGlitchyRemote lacks trackpad

  • Web TV sources corralled for our viewing pleasure, perfect local playback, that awesome remote.
  • Flash instabilities spoil the fun for everyone
  • Much more than a TV streamer or local playback machine: It’s not without its rough edges, but we love the Boxee Box all the same....

  • Unique styling; massive potential; Access to Internet services
  • Networking is very unreliable; Local content is sidelined for Internet video; Annoying remote; BBC iPlayer is a little disappointing; confusing user interface
  • The D-Link Boxee Box media streamer has major networking problems and, although we've been promised a solution in new firmware, we can't comment on this until the company releases the update....

  • 1080p support, stream content from lots of different places, supports video, music and photo, can stream from SD card, USB drive, NAS drive, internet
  • Interface could be better in places, can't rent movies or TV shows in the same easy way as iTunes, browser very basic
  • This is the best of the bunch giving you plenty of content and ways of easily getting content to your TV...

  • We approached the Boxee Box with some trepidation. To start with it took us some time to work out what it is actually called but having read the available literature, set the device up and given it a good shake we came to the realisation that the softw...

  • Very good HD playback, with the filters correctly set up, Boxee Media Manager app is easy to set up, Unique design, Remote has a complete keypad on one side, Remote control apps for iOS and Android
  • A couple of filters make video noisy, if turned on, UI feels dated, You get a WD Live Hub with a 1TB drive for slightly less cash, Quite a few apps dont work in India
  • The Boxee Box is a part HD media player and part HD media streamer. As one device, it attempts to do the best of what the WD Live HD media player series does and what the Apple TV does. And does so looking very unique. Look & Feel The unique cube-is...

  • Good Design, Easytouse, Excellent Format support, Integrated WiFi
  • Price
  • So is it worth investing Rs. 13,000 in a dedicated-multimedia player? If you're one of those who want excellent codec support along with streaming content, Boxee Box wouldn't disappoint but if you take a little more pain and create an HTPC of your own whi...

  • Good performance; Fast and nice interface; Plays most formats; Great online media features; Built-in Wi-Fi; RF QWERTY remote for internet use.
  • Requires internet for first time use and registration; Remote has almost no media buttons except Play Pause; Takes a minute to start up; Not easy to setup and use for novice; No composite or component connectivity; Bulky and heavy.

  • So, at Rs.13,999, does the Boxee Box warrant a rush to your nearest hardware store? Not really. It’s a bit expensive for what is essentially an HD media player without any built-in storage. Where the Boxee Box really shines though, is in the software d...

  • Boxing DayHaving come this far with D-Link's Boxee, we have to admit that the media cube left us with mixed feelings. It isn't simply a media tank with basic playback facilities. Fundamentally, it enables you to stream, surf, view and listen to a broad ra...
