The editors liked

  • Easy setup
  • USB connection
  • Very sturdy stand
  • Dualcapsule design allows switching between cardioid and omnidirectional modes
  • Powered by USB cable
  • Quality sound production
  • Friendly manual and easy installation make getting started a breeze. Lowsensitivity setting is perfect for recording loud sounds (also works great with drunken cohosts)
  • The Snowball is an extremely sturdy and stylish multipattern microphone that plugs directly into your computers USB port with a minimum of fuss.
  • Very easy to connect
  • No software or drivers required
  • Fantastic performance

The editors didn't like

  • Cool look but a bit bulky for portability
  • Could use a longer cord
  • Bulbous
  • Forget cramming this 4inch globe into the messenger bag with your laptop. Jokey endorsement from North Platte Star Trek Fan Club president on page one of manual is highly illogical
  • Beyond USB
  • The Snowball offers no other audio outputs or inputs
  • The recording mode switch isnt intuitively labeled
  • And no recording software is included.
  • Larger size may be hard to place on a crowded desk

  • Abstract:  What you really want with a microphone is for it to be connected to your computer via a USB port rather than those unreliable little 3.5mm jackplug sockets. What's also nice is for it to be omnidirectional so you can put it on a table and have the whole c...

  • Abstract:  The microphone market is vast, with pretty much every make and model protesting that theirs is a ‘professional' piece of kit, even the ones you can find for £9.99 in Argos. For those without specialist knowledge it can be a daunting arena to enter for the...

  • Relatively large footprint for small desktops or home studios, not ideally portable, record quality can't be user defined, will be overkill for some occasional users, no Pop Filter as standard, cheaper options available. Min specs: Mac OS X 10.4.11 or...
