Well built and easy to set-up. Works well with all iPod models and the remote is quite good. Can be used outside as long you don't mind the weight of the batteries. Sound quality is very good
But the top end has been lobbed off to protect you from the evils of MP3s. Will play very loudly.
Sounds good for its size. No power brick.
Excellent sound quality. Can run on alkaline batteries or AC power. Optical and analog audio inputs.
(Click here for details.) Its no great shock that Apples kept iPod Hi-Fis controls incredibly simple
The only two buttons on its body are capacitive (touch-sensitive) plus and minus circles on top
Directly in front of the Universal Dock. Theres a...
The well-built Apple iPod Hi-Fi possesses excellent sound quality for a one-piece system
And it has lightning-quick controls
Particularly when using the bundled remote control. Its also visually appealing and includes design features such as a built...
The editors didn't like
Is not as good as Steve Jobs claims. With all of the batteries inside
It weighs far too much. Top end does not have enough extension. May encourage you to listen far too loudly. Soundstage width and depth suffers due to the design.
Pricey. No extra features or functions.
Menu button on remote doesnt activate the iPods menu system. No video pass-through. Not available in all black.
Idering all of these factors
And despite its good (if warm) low-volume sound and strong performance at high volumes
IPod Hi-Fi falls somewhere in the middle of the semi-portable speaker pack. Because of its comparatively high price
Staid design
And...
The Apple iPod Hi-Fi sounds only marginally better than its competition but costs much more. Despite the remotes menu button
You cant navigate the iPods menu. There is no video line-out
Great sound, refined styling and top-notch iPod integration.
Much larger than other iPod speaker options.
While the excellent Bose SoundDock is a more compact option that also produces impressive sound, the iPod Hi-Fi is certainly attractive, very well designed and louder. Both have a similar price, but if you dont mind the extra space it requires, the iP...

Purpose built for iPod, smooth integration, good sound overall, battery or mains powered
Sound separation limited, treble lacks detail, heavy, no video out, no USB port
Overall, the Apple iPod Hi-Fi provides good sound with some clever features that set it apart. Its an attractive option for people looking for good, room-filling sound in a compact package, though some will prefer the better sound separation and flex...
The iPod Hi-Fi looks pretty good in the flesh, Really can fill your room with sound
Audiophiles neednt lose any sleep over it, iPod integration is surprisingly ungainly, Its expensive for what it does
One of the undoubted reasons for the iPods huge success is the growth of a so-called "iPod economy", a $1-billion dollar industry that specialises in making accessories for Apples digital music player. It would seem fair that as Apple effectively crea...
Abstract: There are more iPod speaker docks than you can shake a stick at, but before the arrival of the iPod Hi-Fi it seemed Apple was content to leave them to third parties. The iPod Hi-Fis design is a matter of taste, but the unadorned, weighty block does...
Abstract: Some good design touches and decent sound quality, but a staggering price tag Apparently, Apple felt that third-party manufacturers were failing to meet the potential of the iPod as the primary music source of the home. The result, the iPod Hi-Fi, is ...
Abstract: The iPod Hi-fi is seen by many as the black sheep of the Apple family when it comes to design - but we e not so sure. In the flesh the iPod Hi-fi is somewhat more compact than it appears in its press shots and the simplistic design is actually very appeal...
