Beautiful picture with excellent colors and the blackest blacks. Plenty of connection options. Simple design exudes grace and poise. Builtin WiFi

Netflix
Hulu and Sony's own Hollywood offerings without an external box
Attractively designed. Excellent image detail. Wide viewing angles. Accurate colors. Energy efficient.
The Sony KDL-HX850 delivers excellent picture quality for an LCD
With deep blacks and plenty of detail in shadows. Blooming was minimal
And both uniformity and viewing angle were very good. The Gorilla Glass front adds both toughness and good looks
The editors didn't like
Menus are a mess
Remote is meh
And configuration requires Ring TFM. Internet options (Yahoo widgets!) aren't easy to navigate
But at least the remote has a dedicated Netflix button. 3D glasses sold separately. It does Skype
But the camera is sold sepa
Pricey
And 3D glasses not included. Low contrast ratio
The HX850 is expensive compared with like-performing plasmas
Hugely improved screen, Convincing 3D, Stacks of smartness, A sound unrivalled
verdict In some ways (particularly its supernatural ability with blacks, and the stability of its 3D images) the Sony KDL-46HX853 is the best LCD TV we've seen – it's undoubtedly the best flatscreen TV we've heard. Add in a raft of on-line features and wh...

Sony has created a very good series with the HX850 product line. We like the monolithic design and the wide, long base, but would have preferred a non-glossy finish on the screen itself. The picture quality of the 55-inch model we tested is excellent, a...
Great looks, build and finish, superb ergonomics, does fine work with black tones and motion, exceptional sound, impeccable backlighting
No great shakes at upscaling DVD, others offer even more dynamic contrasts, 3D glasses cost extra
As an overall package, there's just no disputing the Sony KDL-46HX853's case. Its contrasts could conceivably be stronger, and those who need it to upscale a lot of DVD movies might think twice, but in every other respect the Sony's hugely impressive. It's...
Any quibbles relating to the KDL-46HX853’s file playback limitations or undernourished audio are quickly silenced by the storming image quality. This can be considered a top-class performer for both HD sports and movies. Throw in a huge selection of st...
High contrast, Accurate colours: average Delta E = 2.3, Effective Motionflow XR 800 Hz function, Great 3D picture quality (hardly any crosstalk), Low power use: 107 watts, Wider than average viewing angles
Glossy screen, The model we tested had some clouding issues, No 3D glasses included, Media player not compatible with many file formats
The Sony Bravia HX853 delivers excellent picture quality in 2D and 3D, with high contrast, accurate colours, a near-perfect gamma and great responsiveness. However, even though the dynamic backlighting improves clouding (light patches leaking through i...

The 46HX853 is an absolutely stunning LED set that truly lives up to its flagship status. That's primarily due to its extraordinary picture quality, with the sort of black depth, colour vibrancy and sharpness that you don't always get from LED sets. The ...
Great picture quality, soundbar stand produces rich audio straight from the box, lots of connectivity and built-in Sony Entertainment Network
Slanted stand design won't suit all, Homeshare should be simpler to set up and have a better library system, response can be slow
Fantastic image quality, deep blacks and rich sound make this set among the best in its class. But the slow responsiveness, Homestream’s headache of a setup, and the slanted "monolith" stand are issues to consider. Ignore those bumps and its otherwise ...
