  • Easy to program

  • Very easy setup
  • Advanced options for those that like to “play
  • ” fantastic software
  • Excellent compatibility
  • The Harmony 890 offers easy programmability for even complicated systems

  • Remote can learn IR codes
  • Rechargeable battery and docking station included

The editors didn't like

  • Fast-forward
  • Play
  • And rewind buttons could be better placed. Wireless extender must be connected to your PC during programming. Codes occasionally do not get sent.
  • Compared to the IR-only 880
  • The Logitech Harmony 890 is pricey. Its Web interface may intimidate nontechie users
  • And it lacks the Wi-Fi connectivity thats beginning to appear on some rival high-end remotes.
  • 399 MSRP is expensive
  • Remote buttons feel a bit cheap
  • Display is dim and lacks vibrant color
  • Pricey [eminimall]
  • Some will find $350 too pricey for a remote
  • Lacks some of the cool factor of a touch screen
  • Lacks capability to control devices via RS232 (I'd like an RF to RS232 addon device).

  • While it isnt perfect, the Logitech Harmony 890 should be near the top of your list if youre in the market for a sub-$400 RF remote that can operate equipment thats hidden behind cabinets or closet doors.

  • Abstract:  The Harmony 890 can control more than 80,000 devices -- even through doors. But its features dont justify the $400 price tag
