  • A profile 2.0 Bluray player from the prime backer of the format
  • This player works as easily and efficiently as almost any DVD player out there
  • Yet will smoke them in video performance with Bluray discs
  • The BDPS350's size is a big step forward for Sony. Their original Bluray players were huge. This unit is smaller than many conventional DVD players. The general appearance is mod

The editors didn't like

  • Remote is neither programmable nor backlit
  • Poor deinterlacing of 1080i content
  • No DTSHD HR/MA Decoding
  • Slightly confusing settings options
  • Recessed USB Port
  • Lacks 1080p24 upconversion with DVD video. Faster start-up option increases power consumption. Limited multimedia features
  • Such as JPEG and MP3 playback.
  • This player will output every audio format in bitstream and will also output LPCM for everything but DTSHD Master Audio. Therefore
  • To take advantage of all the new codecs
  • You'll either need a receiver or AV preamp that can decode those bitstreams or to spend another $100 for the BDPS550 which has analog outputs
  • The construction of the player is solidfeeling and adequate for the price point
  • Not currently compatible with Blu-ray Profile 2.0
  • Recessed USB port can be difficult to access
  • No onboard DTS-HD Master Audio decoding
  • Quick start option uses power even when player is off.
  • No line-out audio for sending out decoded Dolby True-HD
  • No DTS-HD Master Audio decoder
  • Inset USB port limits what flash drives will fit
  • Remote does not light up or glow in dark
  • *
  • Lousy networking setup
  • We had to enter everything manually. Primitive remote. Doesnt ship with BDLive installed.Denon DVD2500BTCI $1000 Handles a full spectrum of formats - including DivX - and wins on quality. Bummer its so expensive and lacks BDLive...

  • Abstract:  The BDP-S350 was a Profile 1.1 player at its launch but Sony has made good on its promise and made it Profile 2.0 through a firmware update. Youll need to leave a flash drive in the rear-mounted USB port to access BD Live content, though. S-video ...

  • Excellent Blu-ray image quality; very good DVD upscaling; compact size; onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD; unformatted (bitstream) output for all high-resolution audio formats; network port for firmware updates; Blu-ray Profile 2.0 compatibility pending f...
  • Recessed USB port can be difficult to access; no onboard DTS-HD Master Audio decoding; quick start option uses power even when player is off.
  • If youre dead set on a standalone Blu-ray player, the BDP-S350 has a small form factor, solid feature set, and relatively low price--but the PlayStation 3 is still a better value
