  • The Fitbit Ultra effortlessly tracks your basic daily activity level. It has a host of online analytical tools
  • It tracks sleep quality
  • And it boasts both Android and iOS mobile apps
  • Data minutiae can be enthralling

The editors didn't like

  • Battery meter only available when connected to dock
  • Wireless syncing can only happen with the dock
  • FitBit premium not included
  • Distance traveled was optimistic in our tests
  • Not waterproof
  • Doesn't sync with iPhone
  • App doesn't display sleep data
  • Sleep wristband is terrible
  • No GPS
  • Can't track cycling and other activities easily
  • Sleep Timer is inconvenient to use
  • Can't sync directly with mobile app
  • Still not waterproof – hopefully the next version will have that for us swimmers
  • The messages are corny
  • And really not needed
  • The Fitbit Ultra needs to be within 15 feet to sync with its USB-connected base station. The Trainer feature and a deeper activity data analysis cost extra. It's not waterproof
  • Easy to lose — no way to remotely locate
  • Gimmicky "motivation" feature
  • Fitbit.com navigation can be confusing
