The editors liked

  • The DJI Phantom 3 Professional is easy to set up
  • Simple to fly and its stabilised camera shoots beautiful 4K footage
  • Easy to fly
  • Very stable in the air
  • Smooth video capture
  • Even during motion
  • 20mm wide-angle lens
  • 4K video capture
  • Raw and JPG still capture
  • High-quality Live View feed
  • Built-in GPS
  • Return-to-home function
  • Automated flight modes
  • Much easier to fly than not only the previous models
  • But competitors too. Produces higher quality
  • More stable videos. Improved controller makes it easier to fly and to shoot images
  • Almost unbeatably beautiful photo and video quality
  • Superb built-in camera
  • Long battery life
  • Great downloadable app
  • Good controller functionality

The editors didn't like

  • The Phantom 3 Pro isn't cheap
  • And it's hard to distinguish 4K footage from 1080p. Buying spare batteries
  • Which each manage only 20 minutes of flight time
  • Adds even more cost
  • Battery life limits flying time
  • Wide-angle lens shows some edge distortion
  • Indoor flight is still difficult. Camera gimbal doesn't swivel
  • And the camera still isn't removable
  • Not the nicest looking of the small drones
  • Needs more advanced in-flight features
  • No second battery included
  • No hard case included

  • Easy flight control, Excellent video quality, Small and lightweight
  • Android app is slow, No advanced autopilot, Expensive batteries
  • The Phantom 3 Professional is incredibly easy to fly, captures stunning 4K video and features a direct live view link between the camera in the air and your mobile device. There's little not to like in this compact, feature-packed drone...

  • Great image quality, Awesome new remote, Fast charging
  • Poor low-light performance, No audio recording, Expensive
  • Do you want a photography/videography drone that's really fun to fly? Are you willing to spend $1500 to get it? Then yes, go for it, because you're not going to find a better drone for the money. At least not yet. The Phantom 3 Professional just shoots...

  • The DJI Phantom 3 is so competent, so easy to fly and shoot video with, that the main worry I had while testing it was finding a safe place to fly. Even living even on the outskirts of London in a reasonably leafy suburb, I was able to locate few places n...

  • Easy to fly, 4K recording, YouTube live-streaming at the press of a button, safety features for beginners, 1.2 mile range, great stability for capture, less lens distortion
  • Can't remove the camera, Phantom 2 owners can't use their old batteries, no frame-rate greater than 60fps (1080p) or 30fps (4K)
  • The DJI Phantom 3 Professional is a joy to use and one of the most accessible drones we've flown. The mass of pro-spec features, approachability and ease of use make this a real winner. We could argue the catch is the price, but even at £1159 for t...

  • Ease of use, 4K video quality, Robust, customisable remote control
  • 23-minute battery life, Camera doesn't pan left-right, 16GB microSD card

  • DJI has delivered on its bold claims: the Phantom 3 is by far the best consumer quadcopter we've seen. It's stable and produces stunning video footage. Its range goes beyond what most consumers will need and the only extra requirement out of the box is a...
