The Canon HG20 is a camcorder from Canon, and their main theme for any of their cameras – HD or high definition – is met totally with this model. An added feature to this camera is that it has a large capacity hard drive for storage instead of the normal internal memory. The HG20 is apt for those who seek perfection and a classic in one package. The camera has a 1/3.2in CMOS with a 12x lens and 3.31 mega pixels imagery. Another unique feature is that it gives an option of recording at 24 Mbits/second, which is a first.
With a 2.7 inch LCD display, and a five-point joystick which enables easy navigation of controls, the Canon HG20 is a good catch for most buyers. Even the image quality is top class, ranked among the best there is. This 80 x 77 x 138mm barrel like camcorder is very comfortable to hold and operate, in spite of being a bit on the heavier side.

TestSeek's Conclusion
Though the HG20 is a heavier model, the camera has an exceptional image resolution and a very large storage space of 60 GB, which is more than any other product currently. It gives a good 5-hour shooting capacity, and is very easy to handle. All in all, it is ahead of all its competitors in its range.
Abstract: Canon Vixia HG20 is a great HD camcorder that is really easy to use and the looks too are pretty good. It has a lot in common with Vixia HF11 also by the same manufacturer but instead of using a internal flash memory, this camcorder is hard drive based...
Abstract: In this series, Ill review HD camcorders under $600, for those of us with a small budget and a need for quality. Heres my review of the Vixia HG20. The CameraAlthough its heavier than the Vixia HF11, the Vixia HG20 packs quite a punch with its incr...
Yet again, Canon has proven that it currently bestrides the camcorder market like a colossus. The HG20 is another strong contender. We wish it had a lens ring like the latest flagship models from Panasonic, and a regular-sized accessory shoe. But the supe...
Excellent video quality; 60GB hard drive; attractive, understated design.
Wind filter not as dependable as previous Canon models; manual focus pretty useless.
Like its cousin, the flash-based HF11, Canons Vixia HG20 delivers excellent HD video quality and performance albeit in a slightly larger, heavier package. However, you do get more storage space and a lower price. Specifications: Video input type: Camc...
Abstract: The Canon Vixia HG20 ($949 MSRP) is a very good camcorder, of that theres little doubt. Since last years highly-rated HG10 (Review, Specs, Recent News, $644.00), the hard drive was expanded from 40GB to 60GB, the maximum bit rate increased from 15Mbp...
Unsurpassed image sharpness, 60GB hard drive, lots of manual control
Slightly oversized, questionable build quality
The HG20 is an excellent high-def HDD camcorder that easily matches anything else on the market. Although the build quality could be better, its video performance more than makes up for any shortcomings. Highly recommended. ...
Abstract: In virtually every way the HG20 is a significant improvement on its predecessor, the HG10, with larger storage capacity, higher zoom capability and superior quality HD recording at 24Mbps. Its worth noting too that online prices have appeared up to £...

Like its cousin, the flash-based HF11, Canon's Vixia HG20 delivers excellent HD video quality and performance albeit in a slightly larger, heavier package. But you do get more storage space at a lower price, which we think makes it entirely worth it ...
Abstract: One of a trio of new AVCHD-format high-definition models to have been announced by Canon since the summer, the HG20 looks to be yet another excellent offering from the company....
