Analog chain quiet enough to fully exploit 16-bit 48 kHz recording out of the box. Digital inputs that lock to external AES. Very good price-for-performance ratio. Getting files into a post workstation is very easy.

This $1,300 recorder does a great job for the price, but the shortcuts Fostex took range from annoying to downright bad. If youre aware of the FR-2s limitations and find ways around them, the FR-2 makes a nice recorder. I cringe at the term nonlinear...
