The editors liked

  • Compact. Energy efficient. Quiet. Dual-core performance. Wireless 802.11g and Bluetooth built in. New iLife 08. Mac Os X 10.5 Leopard makes the mini and iMac officially Windows compatible.
  • Fast new Core 2 Duo processor compares well with competing Windows desktops
  • Useful iLife 08 software
  • Supersmall chassis remains unique in the mainstream desktop market.

The editors didn't like

  • Only 1GB of RAM standard (2GB would be better
  • Especially if you use Boot Camp). No TV tuner. No keyboard or mouse included. This is the only wireless Mac without 802.11n.
  • Comparable slim Windows desktops offer more features for the dollar
  • As well as expandability
  • No information from Apple on whether youll have to pay for a Leopard upgrade two months from now
  • Free phone support for only 90 days.

  • Abstract:  t 6.5 in. wide and deep, two in. high and weighing less than three pounds, the Mac Mini is, by far, the tiniest of the three small computers we looked at. Its also, arguably, the most elegant-looking. While the other units look like shrunken desktop compu...

  • Who said computers had to take up half a spare room, whirring loudly and wheezing out hot air? The aluminium-clad Mac Mini is about the size of a large paperback – and its carbon footprint isn’t much larger, thanks to its highly recyclable con...
  • Less is more, at least when it comes to the Mac Mini’s price-tag. For the same kind of money, you could buy a designer Windows system with a faster processor, more RAM and a much larger hard drive – and at least get a mouse and keyboard with i...
  • Flat-sharing urban professionals and well-heeled young parents will adore the Mini’s stripped down style and plug-and-play simplicity. Anyone else might decide to sacrifice some design kudos and enjoy a cheaper, more powerful Windows system insteadA...

  • Decent value if you already own the peripherals
  • Dated components
  • Apple quietly upgraded its entry-level Mac desktop with Core 2 Duo chips this month. It was a long overdue bump up. The new clock speeds are 1.83GHz and 2.0GHz.It carries forward exactly the same format as before; the same shell, ports, graphics card, ...
