TDP and power draw is almost unbelievable at 150W for such a high-performance GPU
Using only one 8-pin PCIe cable
In contrast the Fury X requires two 8-pin cables
Overclockability is very good so far – GPU Boost 3.0 works with the Precision X overcloc
Vega 64 is slightly slower than the GTX 1080
While the liquid cooled version wins more than it loses against the GTX 1080

Phenomenal performance
Great overclocker
Efficiency is top notch. This is the best highend GPU to land in years with a price that we feel is justified for what you get.
The editors didn't like
Poor availability and thus pricing. AMD's aircooled RX Vega 64 reference card is ~5% slower than the GTX 1080 FE despite being hotter
Louder and using more power (though we have high hopes for custom cards)
Founder's Edition Confusion
We still have to wait for HBM2 and NVLink
Temperature under load
Price tag due to the lack of competition (for now)
Still a long way to go for 4K with 60 min FPS with a single card.
Noise Levels At Load
OC Temperatures
Price (Compared To Custom Models)
None at this time
Founder's Edition feels like an early-adopter tax
Competing AMD cards can be physically smaller
Thanks to High-Bandwidth Memory
Founders Edition version is additionally expensive
Competing cards may be physically smaller
Pascal architecture discourages use of three- or four-card SLI
Doesn't blow away Radeon cards in heavily AMD-optimized games
Repetitive Side quests may get tedious
Linear gameplay at the end of the game
Story issues with pacing and confusing
It's a beast
And you'll need a big case. $650 is a lot to gamble on whether VR will ever truly take off. For most people
The 1080 and 1070 are excessive solutions to mundane problems
High price for the Founders Edition
Cooler runs into temperature limit
Fans don't turn off in idle
Overclocking more complicated than before
Could be quieter
Support for analog VGA outputs
SLI for three or more cards is complicated
Not quite ready for consistent
High PFS 4K gaming
Pointlessly overpriced “Founder's Edition” release first
SLI for three or more cards needs special unlocking
Still no consistent full detail 4K gaming at 60FPS
Founders Edition pricing
Limited stock right now
We still don't think the premium for Nvidia's Founders Edition card is worth it if you can hang tight for board partners.
We are not crazy about the $100 premium for Founders Edition cards
But you can wait and get a GTX 1080 for less in a few weeks.
