  • The hard drive market has become a lot less sexy in the past few years thanks to SSDs. What we used to consider "fast" for a hard drive is relatively slow compared to even the cheapest of today's solid state drives. But there are two areas where hard drives still rule the roost
  • And that's in terms of overall capacity and cost per gigabyte. Right now you can buy a 4TB hard drive for the same cost as a 256GB SSD
  • So the two are in separate universes in that regard....

The editors didn't like

  • Higher latency standard deviation in mixed workloads over ES and ES.2
  • Price (For Some)
  • Total Price (For Some)

  • Large capacity, Fiveyear warranty, Low power usage, SATA and SAS interface, 128MB cache

  • Comparing the Constellation ES.3 to a pair of consumer mechanical drives shows the performance advantage of this drive in just about every test. RAID 0 performance scaled nicely, driving throughput of the Constellation drives to a level on par with some e...

  • The pace of areal density increases have slowed as we reach the end of PMR's scalability. However, ingenious innovations by Seagate deliver a big 50 percent capacity boost up to 6TB for their Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v4. Recently, Seagate also announc...
