256GB and 512GB offer different speeds
Slow Writes
Random write performance slower than expected
No 1TB model as of yet
Can run hot under heavy workloads
Pricey

Performance not really noticeable in most enthusiast workloads
No IOPs improvement
Increased CPU utilization
Increased performance of drive failure
Fell behind its predecessor and the SM951 in a few benchmarks
Price premium for early adopters
The 950 Pro needs a 1TB model to satisfy power users and a 2TB model for gamers with large Steam / Origin libraries. Magician Software with Windows 10 support is lacking at this time but Samsung is working on it.
Increasing performance through RAID 0 no longer has the same shine it once had. NVMe SSDs are fast enough to satisfy the most demanding user needs. We've hit a point where RAID 0 run off of a chipset gives diminishing returns.
Capacity tops out at 512GB (for now)
Intel SSD 750 Series still faster on some tests
Shorter warranty than on Samsung's SSD 850 Pro
Requires Samsung driver for full write performance
No Power Loss Protection
Wasn't Fastest Across The Board
Mediocre performance in standard desktop activities
Double the cost per GB of fast SATA drives
Nothing worth mentioning.
NVMe is not widely available… yet.
Still very expensive
Requires M.2 slot (and NVMe BIOS for booting)
Needs Z170 to shine
Dubble Bubble
Requires M.2 slot (and NVMe BIOS for booting
Expect to pay a premium for the extreme performance. Compatibility could be an issue as it requires an M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 interface.

Heat Buildup,
Noone here knows just how long NVMe will stay in the spotlight before it gets replaced by something even more durable and faster but until that happens this is as fast as SSDs can go. It goes without saying really that most consumers may nev...

If Samsung's 950 PRO SSD is an indication, the future of solid-state storage is PCIe and NVMe. Designed to meet the demands of high-performance consumer and business laptops and PCs, this pint-sized powerhouse combines Samsung's triple-core UBX controller...

256GB and 512GB offer different speeds, Slow Writes, Random write performance slower than expected
In this review I looked at the new Samsung 950 Pro M.2 NVMe SSD drive. The drive is 256GB and is one of the first drives to combine M.2 and NVMe together on the same package. As you can imagine the drive comes bare and is designed to be used on compliant...
Extremely fast, By far the most affordable M.2 NVMe drive to date
Requires Samsung driver for full write performance
M.2/PCIe NVMe SSDs are now affordable thanks to Samsung's 950 Pro. Why is that important? Because 2GBps sustained sequential reading and 1.5GBps writing makes a SATA SSD seem like it's standing still. If your OS or app can take full advantage of NVMe, you...

Capacity tops out at 512GB (for now), Intel SSD 750 Series still faster on some tests, Shorter warranty than on Samsung's SSD 850 Pro
With performance that blows away almost every other consumer SSD, a reasonable price, and a standard M.2 form factor, the SSD 950 Pro is easy to recommend for those who crave speed. But desktop users running very heavy workloads may still want to conside...

It is very hard not to be impressed by what Samsung offers with the 950 PRO. Aside from the OEM and enterprise solutions out there the 950 PRO is incredibly impressive for the money. You will quadruple your read performance over a regular SATA3 SSD. For...
