The editors didn't like
No 5GHz Wi-Fi
An unfortunate oversight for a device this expensive
Ivy Bridge
While still an able performer
Is weeks away from being replaced by Haswell
Speakers distort a bit at high volumes
Lots of fan noise under load
High starting price and no
Fan spins up quite loudly under moderate-to-heavy load
Starting price is high
Though it's reasonably competitive given its specs
Toshiba used mSATA instead of M.2 SATA leading to a slower read/write speeds
PWM across all brightness levels (0-99%)
Too noisy fan
No DisplayPort
Flimsy lid
Disappointing contrast in the display
Wi-Fi adapter doesn't support 5GHz networks
No 802.11ac or 5GHz Wi-Fi. Small bezel makes some touch gestures inconvenient. May have to adjust zoom or screen resolution for apps. Integrated graphics
Higher-res screens are more common now
And available for less. The generic brushed-metal look isn't particularly distinctive given the price
Expensive
Sharp front corners
No Retina-ready apps
Lackluster webcam
Max refresh rate of 30Hz with external 4K monitor
Default "eco" power plan suppresses performance
Relatively dim display
Shallow
Uncomfortable keyboard
Pricey
Text and icons can be tiny
Noisy fan
May have to adjust zoom or screen resolution for apps
Display suffers from scaling issues
Extremely hot and loud at load
Not a good value
Touchscreen could be brighter. Fan could be quieter. Ultraflat keys not overly friendly for touch typing. Ungodly costly
Too much of Windows isn't designed for high-res displays

Abstract: Toshiba, unlike LG, has never left the laptop market, and has been busy pushing Satellites, Qosmios, and Tecras at us for years. Its latest generation of machines includes all of those (and some all-in-ones), and a whole new product family, aimed at elega...

Superior material construction. Platinum warranty. Highresolution display.
Battery life is merely OK. Needs a bit more "bang for your buck"
Toshiba's ambitious Kira has a screen that rivals Apple's MacBook Pro with Retina display, and a price to match. It's a solid, useful laptop, but for these prices, the design should really be more exciting....
At $2,199 this is an expensive beast. But is it worth it? My view is yes for the simple reason that an Ultrabook of this ilk is going to get used and the last thing you want if you use an Ultrabook every working day is one that cannot last the test of tim
On the downside Toshiba needs to work on the cooling fan and the problems associated with the sheer resolution of the display screen, neither of these two small issues take away from the fact that this is the best Ultrabook we have ever seen.

Excellent screen, Sturdy build quality, Swift performance
Loud fan, No Ethernet dongle
The Toshiba KIRA is a lovely Ultrabook that's designed for those of you want to splurge on a finely crafted product. It would suit anyone who wants great performance and a very high resolution screen in a thin and light chassis. However, the fan in the ch...
Beautiful screen that is crazy sharp; Insanely light; Sturdy and very well built; Fast enough for most; Comes with a premium support service adding two years and dedicated support line;
Trackpad driver needs work; Not everything is optimised for the high-resolution screen; Mediocre battery life;
Customers looking for a “best in show” notebook can certainly put the Toshiba Kirabook on their list, even if it does come with its fair share of quibbles. We'd very much like to see an updated mouse driver and a stronger battery, as well as some fixes for...
Beautiful, rich high resolution screen, Touchscreen option is actually useful, Thin, light yet extremely sturdy chassis, Fully specced with all the latest hardware, Backlit keyboard with excellent travel, Harmon Kardon speakers pump out good sound
No network port – wireless only, Fan can be loud and annoying, Touchpad can activate Windows 8 swipe gestures too easily, Not a Haswell processor
The Toshiba Kira Ultrabook is hard not to like. With the high resolution and full range of features, if you're looking at Ultrabooks, I can imagine this finely crafted machine being near the top of your wish list. The fan does run loud sometimes and the b...
Good keyboard and trackpad, Good overall performance and battery life, Nice metal design
Poor screen quality, A lot of uneeded included software, Touchscreen doesn't add enough for the price
Toshiba Kirabook – Performance The Toshiba Kira is a slim and light ultrabook so performance is not its main focus but of course it still needs to deliver the basics and this it does with aplomb. Its Intel processor and nippy SSD combine to make everyday...
Toshiba's Kirabook has a brilliant higher-res screen, powerful components, and a slick, sturdy design, plus display tweaking software for photo and video experts
The basic look hasn't changed in the past couple of years, while the competition is catching up. The touchpad isn't as responsive as it should be
The Toshiba Kirabook is still a worthwhile high-end Windows alternative to a Retina MacBook Pro, but it could use a little of that Apple secret sauce for its touchpad...
