The editors didn't like

  • No 5GHz Wi-Fi
  • An unfortunate oversight for a device this expensive
  • Ivy Bridge
  • While still an able performer
  • Is weeks away from being replaced by Haswell
  • Speakers distort a bit at high volumes
  • Lots of fan noise under load
  • High starting price and no
  • Fan spins up quite loudly under moderate-to-heavy load
  • Starting price is high
  • Though it's reasonably competitive given its specs
  • Toshiba used mSATA instead of M.2 SATA leading to a slower read/write speeds
  • PWM across all brightness levels (0-99%)
  • Too noisy fan
  • No DisplayPort
  • Flimsy lid
  • Disappointing contrast in the display
  • Wi-Fi adapter doesn't support 5GHz networks
  • No 802.11ac or 5GHz Wi-Fi. Small bezel makes some touch gestures inconvenient. May have to adjust zoom or screen resolution for apps. Integrated graphics
  • Higher-res screens are more common now
  • And available for less. The generic brushed-metal look isn't particularly distinctive given the price
  • Expensive
  • Sharp front corners
  • No Retina-ready apps
  • Lackluster webcam
  • Max refresh rate of 30Hz with external 4K monitor
  • Default "eco" power plan suppresses performance
  • Relatively dim display
  • Shallow
  • Uncomfortable keyboard
  • Pricey
  • Text and icons can be tiny
  • Noisy fan
  • May have to adjust zoom or screen resolution for apps
  • Display suffers from scaling issues
  • Extremely hot and loud at load
  • Not a good value
  • Touchscreen could be brighter. Fan could be quieter. Ultraflat keys not overly friendly for touch typing. Ungodly costly
  • Too much of Windows isn't designed for high-res displays
  • Some performance quirks
  • A few small build quality issues
  • Dim screen
  • Slick keyboard
  • Frustrating trackpad
  • Value depends on interest in extras
  • Exceptionally loud fan
  • Limited viewing angles
  • Touchscreen not standard
