Doesn’t add any bulk to the iPad
Doubles as a stand
Microfiber lining keeps the display clean
Puts iPad to sleep when closed
Available in 10 colors
Very good protection
Good looks
Excellent fit and function
Covers the entire iPad
With only minimal openings for the connectors and camera
Polyurethane
So you don't have to worry about scratching the cover itself
Cover is permanently attached to the back case
Sleep/wakes the iPad
Folds into a stand
Very thin
Doesn't add bulk. Magnetized
So it can be removed and reattached very easily. Converts to a stand for comfortable on-screen keyboard typing and movie watching. Comes in 10 colors.
The editors didn't like
Pricey – especially for the leather covers
Doesn’t protect the back or sides of the iPad
Provides very minimal shock protection
I wish the dark grey was darker
Has a hard rim that extends past the iPad's edges that are very uncomfortable to hold
Some of the openings don't align properly with the connectors underneath
Obscures the nice metal backing of the iPad
Doesn't protect the iPad's back panel. Microfiber backing doesn't remove screen fingerprints as Apple claims.

Abstract: So when we learned in March that Apple was working on a Smart Cover-influenced case, we were excited. And today, three months after the debut of the third-generation iPad, the new iPad Smart Case ($49) has arrived, finally offering iPad 2 and new iPa...
Abstract: I haven't gone quite as case crazy with my iPad 2 as I have with my various iPhones, and while I very much enjoy using the Adonit Writer 2 , my tablet still spends a good 80% of its time with just a Gelaskin on the back and a Smart Cover on the front. Tha...
Abstract: I'm new to the world of tablets, but I knew even before I bought the iPad 2 that I wanted my experience with it to feel clean and focused. This meant that as gorgeous and useful as external stands like the TwelveSouth Compass may be, they were a no-go bec...
Abstract: The Apple Smart Covers are the official "case" for the iPad 2 that was designed together with the iPad 2 from day one. Picking up from the older iPad Case that was made for the first generation iPad, the Smart Cover takes on a similar front design and ...
