  • Aerial units and huge creatures
  • The battles are some of the most spectacular you will have ever seen in a strategy game

The editors didn't like

  • The RTS side of things is still bare-bones and sometimes broken
  • A bit less sandbox-y than previous Total Wars
  • Mediocre tutorial
  • Sometimes a slog
  • Occasionally uncooperative camera
  • A little too streamlined in the grand strategy aspect of the game
  • Warhammer
  • Total War does feel a little too shallow with it suffering from a low number of factions/starting positions and a shalllow economy
  • Could use a bit more of a tutorial for new Total War players
  • And some visual faction customization would be nice
  • Monster hunts can be very difficult
  • Diplomacy and management slow down action
  • A lack of clarity in some areas

  • Abstract:  In the original Total War: Shogun , I once watched a Kensai successfully defend a bridge against an entire brigade of enemy Samurai. In that moment the last vestiges of historical accuracy drained out of the series, never to return. It wasn't a great loss...

  • Abstract:  It feels like forever ago that Total War: Warhammer was announced nearly four years, but it's nearly here, and set to release next week. For those of you who have been following along, here's a great detailed overview of how magic works in the game, which...

  • Total War: Warhammer is a polished entry that breaks away from traditional history with some good novelty value attached to its new setting, though excessive streamlining of the campaign and reduced battle scenarios notably detract from the experience...

  • Abstract:  I was so ready to hate this game. Here, prior to last week, were my thoughts on Total War: Warhammer: Yet here I am, the finished product in my hand, and I'm a changed man. My misgivings counted for nothing. This is the best Total War game in years, and...

  • The recent history of Total War does not paint a good picture, with Rome II and Attila Total War being notoriously difficult to run at steady framerates and both being filled with a large number of bugs and issues at launch. With Total War Warhammer, I ca...

  • But it's so much more than just Total War. Even with Attila making good on some of Rome II's promise, I found myself dreading drawn-out engagements and increasingly bored with the Total War formula. Total Warhammer doesn't tamper with much, but it inj...
