The editors liked

  • Very unique fighting system
  • Beautiful (if odd) character designs
  • Killer online play.
  • Colorful
  • Wellanimated characters and backgrounds
  • Surprisingly deep gameplay and totally unique characters
  • Excellent online performance
  • Plenty of offline content
  • Welcome home
  • Guilty Gear fans.
  • Lush 2D visuals
  • Deep fighting system
  • Fantastic stage design
  • Online is smooth

The editors didn't like

  • Huge learning curve -- even for seasoned 2D fighting fans.
  • Only 12 characters
  • Loud
  • Gaudy
  • And potentially confusing for beginners.
  • Guy from Guilty Gear. The cast is rounded out of the overly sexual Litchi Faye Ling
  • The enormous Tager
  • And KOSMOS lookalike v13. All of them bring unique play mechanics and style to the table
  • And most importantly are all a blast to play with.

  • Abstract:  BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger (pronounced "blaze," not "blahz") marks the debut of a great new franchise; it exhibits an inventive design that's bound to influence its competitors, an infectious sense of energy, and lots of promise. Developed by Arc Syste...

  • Abstract:  BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger is something of a dream game for me. Being a devoted follower of developer ARC System Works -- the folks behind the Guilty Gear series -- I was ecstatic when I first found out that BlazBlue was on the way. The oddly-named 2D ...

  • Abstract:  It's these little gems that generally go under the radar and although the previous game by developers Arc System Works, Guilty Gear had a strong following, we're expecting this to be smashed. This is of course due to their latest title, BlazBlue: Calam...

  • Compared to the first Guilty Gear X, BlazBlue is a far more accomplished game – even more impressive when you consider the sheer diversity the Drive system offers. It also epitomises the classic ‘easy to learn but hard to master’ gamepla...

  • Feels reassuringly familiar, Tons of imagination, Clever balancing
  • Not the most technical fighter, May feel too familiar, No swanky 3D graphics

  • Farbenfrohe Welt, HDGrafik, Gelungener Onlinemodus, Intensive Story
  • Gewöhnungsbedürftige Steuerung, Standbilder statt Animationen, Viel Text
