The editors liked

  • Very unique fighting system
  • Beautiful (if odd) character designs
  • Killer online play.
  • Colorful
  • Wellanimated characters and backgrounds
  • Surprisingly deep gameplay and totally unique characters
  • Excellent online performance
  • Plenty of offline content
  • Welcome home
  • Guilty Gear fans.
  • Lush 2D visuals
  • Deep fighting system
  • Fantastic stage design
  • Online is smooth

The editors didn't like

  • Huge learning curve -- even for seasoned 2D fighting fans.
  • Only 12 characters
  • Loud
  • Gaudy
  • And potentially confusing for beginners.
  • Guy from Guilty Gear. The cast is rounded out of the overly sexual Litchi Faye Ling
  • The enormous Tager
  • And KOSMOS lookalike v13. All of them bring unique play mechanics and style to the table
  • And most importantly are all a blast to play with.

  • Abstract:  For many years, Arc System Works quietly earned a fan following with the flashy 2D fighting action and totally over-the-top characters of the Guilty Gear series. The studio has started anew with BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, a new game with new character...

  • BlazBlue is a mighty fighting game. Too mighty even. In fact, its biggest flaws may stem from its mightiness. Here’s another example of such: the game considers Standard Definition television screens beneath it, and as a result, bits of text are cut o...

  • Abstract:  I won't say I'm a hardcore fighting guy, I'm more of an arcade enthusiast than anything else, but there's a definite appeal with fighters and their arcade roots, which is why I've played a good chunk of them over the years. I certainly have my favorite...

  • Abstract:  After a less-than-stellar change of pace with the 360 exclusive Guilty Gear: Overture, Arc Systems has returned to their fighting game roots with their latest epic brawler, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger - and trust me when I say, it was worth the wait. TH...

  • Abstract:  It's pretty fair to say that BlazBlue is a title that flew directly under the radar this year. With almost no pre-release buildup or trickle-fed announcements, this blip on the radar seems at first to be just another arcade-style fighter imported from...

  • Abstract:  Who would have thought a 2D side-scrolling fighter could look this amazing on a next-gen system. Well, obviously ARC did and they delivered with the heir apparent to the Guilty Gear franchise. BlazBlue is said to be tapped to take over from Guilty Gear...
