The editors liked

  • Small yet meaningful tweaks like the Advanced Locator make the game much more fun to play
  • The evolution of Issac Clarke as a character is nicely handled
  • The action still fits into the trademark Dead Space mold.
  • Dismembering necromorphs is as thrilling as ever
  • Some great new necromorph types
  • Wonderfully atmospheric visuals and sound design
  • Exhilarating multiplayer
  • A great bonus in Dead Space Extraction.

The editors didn't like

  • There's a noticeable lack of major moments
  • The boss fights are fairly weak
  • There isn't enough in the way of meaningful plot developments or answers to major questions.
  • No significant gameplay advances over the first game
  • Singleplayer falls into predictable rhythm for a while
  • Some dull objectives.

  • Abstract:  Dead Space 2 is a fantastic - sometimes harrowing, sometimes adrenaline-pumping - experience. Protagonist Isaac Clarke has a miserable fate. After his initial encounter with Necromorphs aboard the Ishimura ship, leading him to practically lose his mind...

  • Despite my odd hang-ups about this game, Dead Space 2 is a non-stop, toe-curling, action-horror, adventure. It is sure to be enjoyable for anyone who is already a fan of the series and it’s also a great new chapter for anyone just getting into the sto...

  • At the end of the day, it’s Dead Space 2’s single player campaign that truly shines, and you can consider the multiplayer a bonus, for the story mode is unquestionably worth your $60 by itself. Hopefully you won’t experience the audio glitches I had, ...

  • Abstract:  So EA and Visceral games made a mark on the survival horror genre with 2008′s critically acclaimed Dead Space. So what EA and Visceral? You think you’re hot stuff now, eh? Hey Visceral, what have you done since Dead Space, huh? Godfather 2, lame. Dan...

  • Abstract:  New franchises are about as tough to get off the ground as a pig on a pogo stick but in 2008, Electronic Arts did it. With Dead Space, EA's tension-filled, sci-fi third-person-survival-horror-shooter, (Whew, hyphen much?) we got a gripping, Aliens-l...

  • Abstract:  Isaac Clarke is not a very lucky man. After spending a long time on the Ishimura trying to escape from the clutches of the Necromorphs and destroy the Aegis Marker that helped create them he almost didn't make it. He may have survived his time on the I...

  • Abstract:  With Resident Evil becoming "Resident Action" and the Silent Hill series becoming a shadow of its former self (pending the release of Downpour being very good that is) survival horror hasn't had much to scream about these days. Sure, Alan Wake was a ni...

  • Abstract:  For all the escapism they bring, most video game universes probably aren't places we would actually ever want to go. For as much of a thrill as we might get from being hunkered down in the middle of a firefight against the Reapers or witnessing the aft...

  • Abstract:  In space no one can hear you scream...for more. The horror game genre has become increasingly stagnate over the years. Resident Evil was the original, and while I have loved the later incarnations, they rarely give you that sense of tension we got when ...

  • Abstract:  Early on in Dead Space 2, there's a moment where protagonist Isaac Clarke boards a space train. In the previous game, such a moment would have signaled a loading screen; but here, it unfolds as the following in-game sequence: After tinkering around to ...
