  • Abstract:  NetherRealm Studios new Mortal Kombat is a re-imagining of the famed fighter series that began back in 1992 with the original Mortal Kombat. Created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, the series started off with an arcade fervor that lasted for a few iteratio...

  • Abstract:  Plainly called Mortal Kombat, the latest entry in the violent fighting game series is actually a reboot. Technically the ninth main-line entry in the series, it takes many cues from Street Fighter IV – pulling characters and gameplay from the ‘classic’...

  • Abstract:  I had heard about it in hushed whispers: a new arcade game was recently delivered to the local comic book store, and it was supposed to be even better than Street Fighter II. With fierce fighting, blood, and even rumored secret moves, it was only a mat...

  • Abstract:  Mortal Kombat boasts 30 stages, with only three of them being slight variations of one another and eight professing special stage Fatalities. Along with 27 characters out of the box (28 on PS3 thanks to Kratos) this is easily one of the m..

  • Abstract:  So, with the series looking to have lost it’s identity for over a decade, it was understandable for anyone to write off the series and lose faith in any future installments. I think that this is what many people did but, when Midway went bankrupt and...

  • Abstract:  After many years and half a dozen mediocre-to-middling attempts to rekindle one of the biggest franchises of the 90s, Mortal Kombat is finally really back. Under the watchful eye of series co-creator Ed Boon, NetherRealm Studios has delivered the ni...

  • Abstract:  MORTAL KOMBAT! I'll admit to not being the world's biggest fan of this particular franchise, and that's almost entirely because I don't have the nostalgia for it that others do. I played MK 1, 2 and 3, and then kind of fell off the horse after that. Pl...

  • Abstract:  Twenty years ago, arcades all around the U.S. saw an unprecedented surge, the event spear-headed by two extraordinary titles on opposite sides of the spectrum. Prior to that, the genre was practically unheard of but their success would ignite a wave of...

  • Abstract:  Back when I was in high school, more years ago than I care to remember, I had an English teacher who liked students to write short papers. He would tell us this on a fairly regular basis and would always remind us why – 10 pounds of bullshit smells wo...

  • Mortal Kombat combines the novelty of extreme violence with a great fighting engine. My favorite moments with Mortal Kombat were always playing against a friend (Gamespy’s Ryan Scott is a beast), but I was disgusted by how unbalanced some of the single...
