The editors liked

  • Excellent writing and voiceovers
  • Challenging
  • Varied puzzles
  • Quite possibly the best co-op mode of 2011.
  • Immensely clever writing
  • Portal mechanics combine with new elements for delightful puzzles
  • Cooperative campaign creates intriguing situations
  • New characters are hugely entertaining
  • Smooth Steam connectivity lets you team up with PC players.
  • Awesome single player mode with challenging puzzles
  • A fantastic script
  • Optional commentary and lots of hidden secrets. Equally awesome multiplayer mode that can be enjoyed off or online. Valve is promising free DLC in the future. PS3 copy comes with a free Windows/Mac copy of the game. Clear and crisp visuals. Great use of sound effects and the ending songs are awesome.
  • Longer game
  • Better graphics
  • More puzzling puzzles
  • Better and more characters

The editors didn't like

  • Loading screens are a bit too frequent
  • No Half-Life Easter eggs this time.
  • Frequent load times
  • No challenge maps or leaderboards to inspire competitive play.
  • Split-screen multiplayer can be a bit cramped. A microphone is practically required for some of the puzzles in the multiplayer mode. You can easily clear the single player mode in two days
  • Probably even in under 8 hours.
  • Some things changed without reason from original
  • Feels too ‘game like' compared to the original

  • Visually and audibly awesome; clever use of tools for puzzling; great story and characters; co-op rocks; price fits package; doesn´t talk down to players
  • A bit short; no great leaps on from the original; not a lot of replay; massively hyped and suffers for it

  • Abstract:  Published April 22nd 2011. Written by Owen Grieve. Four years after exploding into the public eye with a sensational debut EP, synthetic singer-songwriter GLaDOS has finally taken on the challenge of the difficult second album. Her song ‘Still Alive’ b...

  • Abstract:  You always know where you stand with Valve — well, most of the time. Granted, Portal’s developer lied about rewarding us with cake for completing its puzzle-platformer, but with the likes of Left 4 Dead and the genre-defining Half-Life series already ...

  • There’s a lot of great stuff to come in 2011, but we’re confident that by the end of it Portal 2 will still be one of the forerunners for game of the year. No fruity descriptions, no fancy words: just buy it. 9.5/10Print this pageComments (1)Share this...
