The editors liked

  • It's like someone traveled back in time to 1996 and brought back a new Super NES platformer that we all forgot about.
  • Inspired level design
  • Fun and creative challenges
  • Cleverly hidden secrets and surprises add replay value
  • Varied gameplay
  • Spoton controls.
  • Fantastic level design
  • Hidden collectibles give a substantial reason to replay levels
  • Vehicle sequences are loads of fun
  • Strong artistic design
  • Catchy soundtrack.
  • Brilliant reboot
  • That welcomes back a classic masterpiece.

The editors didn't like

  • It gets way too hard when Diddy Kong's not with you (and this presents an effective handicap when you fire up multiplayer).
  • Poorly thought out controls cause needless accidents and deaths
  • Frustrating "vehicle" stages will make you feel the burning fury of a thousand suns
  • At times inhumanly difficult
  • Occasionally clumsy controls.
  • CoOp play seems like an afterthought.

  • Abstract:  If I were Donkey Kong, I'd be proper miffed off by now. He invites Mario to play a small support role in his first ever action game, only for that conniving plumber to hog the limelight and run off with all the fame and glory, leaving Donkey to look af...

  • Abstract:  I've said this before but it deserves repeating. Nintendo knows exactly what kind of art style will shine on the Wii. The Wii console doesn't have the same muscle behind it as the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3, but the way everything is designe...

  • It was thought impossible, but Nintendo laughs in the face of adversity. The brilliant minds over at Retro Studios managed to make Rare’s classic even better than Rare did, and if that isn’t a testament to the pool of talent over at Retro (as if Metro...

  • Abstract:  It was just about a year ago that Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros. Wii numbed nostalgia-loving gamers’ thumbs with its modern day take on old school platforming. Like that title, Donkey Kong Country Returns respects its SNES-era roots while making i...

  • Abstract:  Nintendo in Japanese should mean fun. Every time Nintendo or one of their studio’s releases a new title based upon one of their core characters (this time Donkey Kong) it has a tendency to be a good game. Donkey Kong Country Returns falls into this cat...

  • Abstract:  There has always been a charm to Donkey Kong and his little pal Diddy Kong. Both have showed their mugs in many Mario related titles such as Super Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Power Tennis, Mario Kart; Double Dash!! and many others. They have even starred ...
