The editors liked

  • There are moments when it perfectly recaptures the spirit of old Mario games
  • But...
  • Local multiplayer. New power-ups. Intuitive controls.
  • A superb 2D Mario platformer
  • Synthesized for multiplay.
  • Great level design
  • Challenging difficulty
  • Plenty of replay value
  • Multiplayer can be fun if you're not taking it too seriously.
  • Classic Mario gaming. Multiplayer chaos.
  • Fantastic level design
  • A great deal of challenge
  • Fun new Mario items along with classic items
  • Amazing lastability
  • Flexible
  • Wellimplemented multiplayer mode
  • Classic Mario elements that still work
  • Many of the best elements of previous Mario platform games in one place. Players can join and leave the main game at any time. Quicksave feature. A lot of great powerups
  • New suits and hidden stuff to find.

The editors didn't like

  • It tries too hard to cater to both the hardcore Mario fan and new Wii gamers
  • Making for an uneven experience.
  • No online multiplayer. Sub-par cut scene graphics. Four players mode is chaotic.
  • A lot more relentless than you probably expect when flying solo.
  • Multiplayer can be frustrating if you're taking it seriously
  • Motion controlbased moves can lead to control lapses
  • No Classic Controller support.
  • Myabe a tad to difficult for some gamers.
  • Repetitive motion control
  • Multiplayer can get chaotic
  • Odd timing issues
  • Slightly lighter gravity and a few awkward motion control issues.

  • Abstract:  November couldn't come soon enough for me. It's been 23 years since the first Super Mario Bros. game showed up, and we're still all excited when a new Super Mario game comes out. This is not just any Mario title, though; we're talking about a Super Mario...

  • Abstract:  For a few weeks now I’ve been playing New Super Mario Bros. Wii, as I’ve gotten this for a Christmas gift. The first question that came into my head was the same question that popped into everyone’s head – why should anybody buy a game for $50 that was...

  • Abstract:  Although I love playing videogames, very rarely do I ever pay full price for a game - normally I wait until it has gone down in price at least somewhat. Super Mario Bros. Wii was an exception to that rule, after I heard many great things from all my fr...

  • Abstract:  It’s rare for a game to excel at entertaining both a lone player and a gathering of them, but New Super Mario Bros. Wii ("NSMB Wii" from here on) manages it. Combining a mix of traditional Mario platforming action with a few multiplayer versus modes an...

  • New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a safe purchase for platforming fans to be sure. You’ll get a decent amount of content, your wits will be challenged, and you’ll get to hear Mario’s pudgy voice chant “Lets A Go” enough to fill your heart with nostalgic joy...

  • What more can I say? This is, along with Super Mario Galaxy, arguably the greatest game on the Wii right now. It’s simply up to your preferences on the number of dimensions you like your platformers to have. If you have ever liked a Mario game, get thi...

  • Local multiplayer. New power-ups. Intuitive controls.
  • No online multiplayer. Sub-par cut scene graphics. Four players mode is chaotic.
  • The latest Mario game happily recalls the series' early side-scrolling days. Its fantastically well-designed gameplay and local multiplayer will grab the hearts of adults, children, and families who love the franchise....

  • Abstract:  New Super Mario Bros. Wii is one of those rare technology products that everyone can agree on. Even the non-videogamers in your life probably have a soft spot for Mario, and this game is a true follow up to the likes of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Ma...

  • Abstract:  New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the kind of game that comes out once every five years. So rare is it to see a game that unifies elements that should be common to every game but seldom are: Innovation, purpose, and fun. In a game library saturated by rubbi...
