The editors liked

  • Beautiful picture with excellent colors and the blackest blacks. Plenty of connection options. Simple design exudes grace and poise. Builtin WiFi
  • Watch YouTube
  • Netflix
  • Hulu and Sony's own Hollywood offerings without an external box
  • Attractively designed. Excellent image detail. Wide viewing angles. Accurate colors. Energy efficient.
  • The Sony KDL-HX850 delivers excellent picture quality for an LCD
  • With deep blacks and plenty of detail in shadows. Blooming was minimal
  • And both uniformity and viewing angle were very good. The Gorilla Glass front adds both toughness and good looks

The editors didn't like

  • Menus are a mess
  • Remote is meh
  • And configuration requires Ring TFM. Internet options (Yahoo widgets!) aren't easy to navigate
  • But at least the remote has a dedicated Netflix button. 3D glasses sold separately. It does Skype
  • But the camera is sold sepa
  • Pricey
  • And 3D glasses not included. Low contrast ratio
  • The HX850 is expensive compared with like-performing plasmas
  • And color tended somewhat toward blue

  • Beautiful colors, superlative connectivity, and discretely handsome style. The Sony HX850 may not shout about its skills when you first look at it, but its LED display is among the best we’ve seen. Contrast levels and some hiccups in 3D performance wo...

  • Abstract:  Video Review: The holiday shopping season will soon descend upon us, and if you're in the market for a new LED TV, Matt Mira and John Barrowman are here to help with the Sony Bravia HX850 55" LED TV....

  • The KDL-55HX850 incorporates many things we liked about the KDL-55HX750, and the addition of local dimming should improve upon the main thing we didn't: its black level. This TV also has a more stylish design and a slightly thinner form. Do these features...

  • At $2100 and $2600 (for the 46-inch and 55-inch models, respectively) the HX850 is on par with its LED competition in terms of price—its certainly more affordable than Panasonics WT50—while producing a picture that can compete with plasmas like Pannys...

  • At an MSRP of $2,600—as I write this, it's on sale for less on Sony's own Website, although such offers are fluid—the KDL-55HX850 isn't exactly a steal. But when you consider its superb black level, crisp color, and near-reference-quality 3D, you'd have ...

  • Abstract:  This upgrade feature in the KDL-55HX850 creates the 960Hz frame rate effect by manipulating the backlight through the local dimming mechanisms in the backlight. This is processed and achieved by the local dimming of hundreds of zones in the TV. This...

  • Attractively designed. Excellent image detail. Wide viewing angles. Accurate colors. Energy efficient.
  • Pricey, and 3D glasses not included. Low contrast ratio
  • Sony's Bravia HX850 series is a gorgeous but pricey HDTV line offering LED backlighting, 3D support, Web features galore, and accurate out-of-the-box color—if only the contrast ratio were higher....

  • When all is said and done, the 55HX850 (MSRP $2,600) proves that Sony still knows a thing or two about crafting TVs.There are plenty of good reasons to consider checking this Sony out, chief among them the TV’s picture quality. The 55HX850 has a super...
