The editors didn't like

  • Expensive
  • Weak native speakers
  • 48 Hz mode produces some flicker which can be distracting
  • Wide bezel makes the set larger than it needs to be for its screen size
  • Not optimized for home use
  • Black levels not as good as those of Pioneer Kuro models
  • No fancy features like network connectivity or access to internet services
  • No advanced picture controls
  • Albeit it doesn’t really need them.
  • The new 48Hz mode reduces judder
  • But it adds noticeable flicker that some people will find even more distracting
  • This TV isn't as good at upconverting SD content as the best panels we've seen
  • Although it is solid in this respect
  • Plasma TVs generally aren't as bright as LCDs and therefore aren't the best choice for a really bright room with lots of potential light reflections.
  • Blacks not quite as deep as the best plasmas
  • Optional 24p mode introduces flicker
  • Fewer picture controls than most HDTVs.

  • Good anti-glare screen, good black levels, built-in gallery player, four HDMI inputs
  • Expensive, weak native speakers
  • A few short years ago, 42-inches was about the only size possible for a plasma HDTV set; today, these are considered the introductory size. Yet there are still plenty of potential viewers who would consider these sets to be "large." Of course, other t...

  • Great value for money; Full high definition picture; Excellent colour; Excellent HDTV tuner; Excellent video processing
  • Reflective glass increases need to boost ‘contrast’ control for bright picture
  • If the TH-42PZ800A is representative of Panasonics entire new range of plasma HDTVs, I would have to say that they are on a winner. Despite the seeming dominance of LCD TVs, this TV shows that plasma is still the best. RRP: $2899.00 GadgetGuy Rating O...

  • Great blacks, excellent contrast, rich accurate colours, good motion handling
  • Minor noise issues, calibration options lacking
  • Another great plasma from Panasonic. The TH-42PZ800A produces a great picture with some of the best blacks weve seen; it only suffers from a few niggling issues. ...

  • Abstract:  Its hard to say what our first impressions of the Panasonic TH-42PZ800A were: the south end of a north-bound robot? Darth Vader with a moustache? The Panasonic is certainly a futuristic looking telly. And its gloss-black finish and subtle bottom bezel...

  • Although we were a little disappointed by the lack of image calibration options on show given this display’s price (roughly £500 more than the 50-inch PZ80), we were still very pleased with the image quality produced by the Panasonic TH50PZ800B...

  • Abstract:  We are part of the plasma screen fan club. For some time they were digital royalty in homes across the world and even now they continue to rival LCDs.Plasmas still hold some prerogatives too. The Panasonic 42PZ800, for instance, has a wide viewing angl...

  • Abstract:  The only areas of concern we had with the 50PZ800, in fact - aside from it not selling its quality cheap - are that the occasional rogue colour tone sneaks in when watching standard de...

  • Superb picture quality; aggressively priced; features galore
  • Not particularly attractive; some of the video-processing tech can be unhelpful
  • Once upon a time, really big TVs tended to do little more with their size than emphasise how inherently poor their pictures were. But, with the Panasonic Viera TH-65PZ800, those days are emphatically over. This screen looks nothing short of sensationa...
