The editors liked

  • Inexpensive. Works directly with HDMI 1.4a devices like Blu-ray players and cable TV for full 1080p 3D. Built-in speaker.
  • The BenQ W1070 offers very good picture quality for the price
  • Including respectable black levels and excellent color accuracy. 3D playback is excellent

The editors didn't like

  • Shows rainbow artifacts unusually often. Doesn't work with 120Hz DLP-link glasses for 3D
  • Works with 144Hz glasses only
  • No 3D glasses are included
  • And they cost $99 each. Low-level shadow detail is crushed. With the 3D upgrades
  • The Epson 3020 could be a better option

  • Abstract:  Our recent review of the LG PF85U, a $1,299 LED-based projector that straddles the home theater/home entertainment line, almost immediately started drawing questions from readers about the viability of such a projector next to a lamp-based model. The BenQ ...

  • Abstract:  Two of the hottest 1080p home theater projectors on the market today are made by BenQ . Their entry-level W1070 sells for less than $1,000, while the W1500 has more advanced capabilities and convenience features and sells for around $1,599. The two models...

  • After measuring and watching the BenQ for weeks, I returned to my current reference projector, last year's $3,500 JVC DLA-X30 (Home Theater, May 2012). The JVC's far superior blacks not only improved dark scenes dramatically, but its deeper contrast and ...

  • While the BenQ W1070 has some issues, almost all of them are the things you need to do to bring out a projector at the $1,000 price point. Some light drop-off at the corners and some more placement restrictions are what you will have to deal with, though ...

  • While not perfect, BenQ's W1070 single-chip 3D HD DLP projector is a great starting point for those considering getting into the front-projection game. Its sub-$1,000 retail price makes it obtainable for many, and its supreme brightness and above-average ...

  • Abstract:  1080p and 3D for less than $1K Enlarge Let’s go over some of the numbers here: 1080p, 3D, $1,000. Pretty solid specs and pricing for flat-panel TV, except ... this is no flat-panel. BenQ’s W1070 is, as you have probably deduced, a projector. I’ve reviewe...

  • The BenQ W1070 3D home entertainment projector offers high-quality 1080p video that's bright enough to stand up to ambient light, but it shows rainbow artifacts relatively easily....

  • Abstract:  The BenQ W1070 is a great little home video projector that produces a 2D image that looks more expensive than it is. High light output and great shadow detail help the W1070 stand up to ambient light, while extensive color controls and solid factory ca...
