The editors liked

  • Retro styling inside and out
  • Abarth performance
  • Easy to maneuver
  • The 2015 Fiat 500e has enough juice for most people's daily commutes
  • And it evokes high style rather than polarizing design. The peppy electric motor makes it a hoot to drive in the city and makes it complacent on the highway as well
  • Impressive cruising range
  • Recharges quickly at 240-volt outlets
  • Quicker acceleration than the base gasoline-powered 500
  • Fun to drive for an electric car

The editors didn't like

  • Tall driving position
  • Snug interior
  • Not much available tech and convenience features
  • The inclusion of a stand alone TomTom navigation system is outdated. Rear-seat passengers and utility both suffer a lack of space due to battery placement. The 500e does not support level 3 quick charging
  • Battery pack and associated hardware consume valuable rear legroom and cargo space
  • Cramped front headroom with sunroof
  • Sales limited to California and Oregon
