The editors liked

  • TDP and power draw is almost unbelievable at 150W for such a high-performance GPU
  • Using only one 8-pin PCIe cable
  • In contrast the Fury X requires two 8-pin cables
  • Overclockability is very good so far – GPU Boost 3.0 works with the Precision X overcloc
  • The EVGA GTX 1060 3GB beats the Red Devil RX 470 overall in performance at a similar price
  • With one 6-pin PCIe connector
  • TDP and power draw are good and it is quiet in comparison to the reference GTX 1060 Founders Edition. ACX 2.0 cooling is very effect
  • The EVGA GTX 1080 FTX beats the more expensive Founders Editon in performance
  • And it beats its Fury X competitor in every benchmark at a similar price
  • TDP and power draw are good and it is very quiet in comparison to almost any other high-performance vi
  • Optimized graphics (and will soon support Vulkan)
  • 5.1 audio is fully utilized
  • Finding classic maps & other secrets
  • Customize weapons & armor
  • Challenges & combat rewards
  • Take-no-prisoners pacing
  • Resurrects the best parts of arena-shooter design
  • Id Tech engine is a marvel
  • One of the best FPS campaigns in recent memory
  • Labyrinthine level design
  • Multiple enemy and weapon types
  • Tons of graphics options
  • Satanic soundtrack
  • True to the original
  • Satisfyingly chaotic combat
  • Steady doses of new weapons and upgrades
  • Diabolical hordes push you to the limit
  • Wonderfully grim landscapes
  • Impactful soundtrack
  • Snap Map is a great bonus
  • Exploration offers lots of secrets
  • Fresh take on FPS gameplay
  • Is Doom but handheld
  • Looks great
  • Skill-based high-speed combat
  • Singleplayer alone is worth the price of admission
  • Snap Map is a simple and powerful tool
  • Graphically gorgeous
  • Campaign progression elements are a good twist

The editors didn't like

  • The video memory at 3GB limits the GTX 1060 to 1920×1080 resolution
  • PrecisionX OC refused to launch for us after activation. We probably left overclocking performance on the table by setting our overclock manually by being unable to use the advanced overclocking features it offers
  • Limited MM & UW Support
  • Texture popins are still a thing
  • Multiplayer
  • Checkpoint saves
  • No ingame option to disable mouse smoothing
  • Runs out of ideas too early
  • Bolted-on (and unnecessary at best) multiplayer
  • Multiplayer needs some work
  • DLC and Season Passes lock content behind paywalls
  • Slow movement speed
  • Unskippable logos
  • Uninspiring multiplayer
  • Missed opportunities to add value to the story
  • Repetitive mission structure
  • Audio glitches
  • Frame rate issues
  • Unlocking in multiplayer feels derivative
  • Arena gameplay feels somewhat generic

  • Abstract:  Doom and Doom II just received some much-needed and much-appreciated updates. Although all platforms received at least a few updates, the updates for the scores off mobile users are perhaps the most exciting. Android and iOS will now get to experience 16...

  • Abstract:  So how do you categorize a beast like gaming on the PC? With decades of titles to pluck from (and the first port of call for most indie titles, too), there's so much to choose from. Gaming on your PC adds the benefits of (nearly always flawless) backward...

  • This has been an enjoyable exploration for us evaluating TV 4K gaming and we hope that our experience may help serve as a 4K TV PC gaming 2017 holiday guide for our readers. The very best 4K is experienced on a large display, and we would recommend a PC d...

  • 1-2-Switch is the Switch's version of Wii Sports, in that it acts as an overall mission statement for the console itself. The quirky, bizarre nature of the unique mini-games make it a funny, memorable experience, but some games are hard to play at first d...

  • Doom for Nintendo Switch is a straightforward port that runs well and looks pretty good. Which ultimately, is everything it needed to be. Even though it's a little fuzzy, smashing through a legion of demons with a fun set of weapons and upgrades feels gre...

  • Unlike the RX Vega 64 Liquid Cooled edition which fell quite short of its performance target of the GTX 1080 Ti and barely matched the GTX 1080, the RX Vega 56 is faster than the GTX 1070 FE. Using performance as our primary metric, at $399, the RX Vega 5...

  • Abstract:  Last Monday, AMD released its new Vega 64 processor in a vain attempt to beat the GTX 1080 and to take the performance crown from NVIDIA's GTX 1080 Ti. Since the reference version throttles performance due to inadequate cooling, BTR purchased a Gigabyte R...

  • Abstract:  It's been about six months since BTR compared the RX 480 versus the GTX 1060 and versus the 290X. It will be interesting to see if there have been any major performance changes since then. Has AMD neglected Hawaii in favor of Polaris, and what about Pasca...
