  • Combat system changes completely change the feel
  • Language and historical alignments bring a much greater sense of realism
  • The hours just melt away…
  • Addictive as ever. Some excellent game-play additions.
  • Still addictive as hell
  • New tweaks enhance gameplay
  • Stable as the place you store your horses
  • New cultural policies add a fantastic RPG element.
  • Hours of addictive turnbased glee
  • Fantastic new tactical combat system
  • Excellent interface makes it easy to keep track of every aspect of the game
  • Great automation features allow you to focus on the big picture
  • Lovely visuals and classical soundtrack.
  • An excellent refinement of the classic Civ formula

The editors didn't like

  • I have lost way too much sleep time playing it.
  • Mac version needs help
  • Still some AI glitches and multiplayer ‘roughness' needing a patch
  • Feels far more simplistic and less rich than previous Civilization titles. Changes to major mechanics will require significant readjustment time for veterans.
  • New city-states feature is a double-edged sword
  • Games lack a sense of character
  • Some omissions from multiplayer hurt that experience.
  • Inconsistent
  • Overly aggressive AI
  • Scattered annoyances
  • Particularly in multiplayer.
  • A few odd omissions from multiplayer
  • Some AI issues.
  • Unit pathfinding can be substandard at times.

  • Abstract:  The new look and feel won me over initially – it’s extremely polished and slick. Big buttons fill the screen directing your attention to exactly where it needs to be. “A UNIT NEEDS ORDERS” a glowing, web 2.0 button screams. “A CITY NEEDS A NEW CONSTRUC...

  • This is, quite easily, the quintessential Civilization experience that – despite the tweaks – will appeal to every type of Civ player, as well as dragging in a few of the uninitiated. Everything about it is considered, clever in a simple kind of way an...

  • Might be too complex for some strategy fans, Multiplayer isn't going to compete with StarCraft II, Civ IV fans may dislike changes to culture and combat
