It won't please everyone
But the hole-punch is an upgrade on the dreaded notch. The rest of the phone looks and feels pretty good too. The black model has only a subtle V chevron on the back making it the least ostentatious and my favorite

The editors didn't like
The LCD panel is inferior to displays in competing devices
Especially OLED ones. Uneven backlighting causes bleed around the edges that becomes increasingly noticeable
Won't be an issue for long-time Huawei/Honor owners
But Magic UI (essentially EMUI)
No waterproofing
Storage can't be expanded further
The secondary camera on the back isn't as versatile as phones with a telephoto or wide-angle shooters

Competitors for Honor View 20

Honor View 20 vs Vi
Poor software experience
No third-part launcher support
Not available in North America
Magic UI still isn't great
No wireless charging
No in-screen fingerprint reader
AR still a little gimmicky
No OIS on front-facing camera
Magic UI is just okay
48MP camera samples don't deliver greater superiority over 12MP samples
Coldlooking display
Heavy noise with shooting video under low light
Not officially available in the US
Huawei's software is still a burden
Lacks wireless charging
Camera is mediocre for most common uses
LCD lacks the beauty and contrast of an OLED panel

The Honor View 20 isn't perfect, no smartphone is. The EMUI Magic OS interface is still not quite all that it should be and I miss the Always On Display and Dark Mode that I've become used to using on phones with OLED panels. As good as the 48MP rear came...

Lovely design, the V pattern makes it pop, Good build quality, glass front and back, Great 6.4" display without a notch, Great performance, Produces good images a decent competitor, Battery life is respectable, Price point is fair
Can be slippery, Speaker is weak, Only has EIS not OIS for camera stabilization
The Honor View 20 is a beautiful phone that could have been even more beautiful had the aluminum chassis been polished. That doesn't make it unappealing, it's just a design cue I think should have been addressed. The back of the phone is stunning with its...
Impressive battery life, fast-charging, High-end performance and specs, Serviceable camera, 3.5 mm headphone jack
No dust/water resistance rating, No wireless charging, Shiny and slippery rear
Is the Honor View 20 a yay or a nay? If you're not in the US and are looking for a $600-$700 smartphone, then there's little reason not to seriously consider it. You basically have the guts of a Huawei Mate 20 or even a P30, just divested of some fancier...

Honor is intended to be Huawei's budget brand, and as such, you get a lot of technology crammed into the likes of the View 20 for the price. There are a few compromises to be made for the lower price – such as an LCD screen, rather than an OLED screen, as...
Dynamic range not impressive, Lackluster HDR, Selfie camera could be improved
Honor View 20 camera review overall score: 8.48The Honor View 20 gets a very high score from us, and for good reason. This device turned out to be a pleasure to use. It captured a surprising amount of detail. Furthermore, you can expect super sharp images...
stylish design, 48 MP rear-facing camera, 25 MP front-facing camera, high screen to body ratio, no notch, Widevine L1 DRM certification, plenty of RAM, large internal storage, Dual-SIM, USB 3.1, USB Type-C, headphone jack, infrared sensor
mono speaker, no microSD card expansion, underwhelming Wi-Fi performance, comparatively dark display, no IP certification, limited LTE support
The Honor View 20 is an awesome device, although it's obviously not perfect. With a glass body, it doesn't support wireless charging, let alone Huawei's "reverse wireless charging" feature that would actually let you charge other devices. And it has a fin...

Excellent design and build quality, Multi-day battery life, Mostly great performance, Proves hole-punch displays aren't terrible, AI Ultra Clarity photos are impressively detailed
Huawei's software still needs polish, Display has some touch latency, Questionable US launch plans, No water resistance or wireless charging, Regular camera experience
On the surface at least, the Honor View 20 seems like the smartphone fan's smartphone. It's beautifully built, packs some serious horsepower, and that hole-punch display offers a taste of the near-future — that's not a bad package for $600. Sure, Huawei's...
